Stephanie Spoto

Stephanie Spoto completed her PhD in English Literature at the University of Edinburgh, looking at the intersections of gender and demonology in seventeenth century occultism. Since then, her work on feminism, race, and the occult as been published in Critical Philosophy of Race, Abraxis, Journal of Feminist Scholarship, and others. Her current project for explores the history of sex magic and the use of the erotic to transcend mind-body dualism. Lilith, Gender, and Demonology (Atramentous Press, 2021) is her first book. Outside of writing, Spoto helps manage a small independent bookstore in Monterey, California where she hosts poetry writing workshops and a long-running philosophy reading group. She also teaches literature and philosophy at California State University, Monterey Bay and Monterey Peninsula College.
